This gallery of maps, from the University of Wisconsin’s SILVIS lab, shows the location of the wildland-urban interface (WUI). According to the lab, “intermix WUI are areas where housing and vegetation intermingle; interface WUI are areas with housing in the vicinity of contiguous wildland vegetation.”
See our June 20, 2013 post for more background on these maps, our July 5, 2013 post on the number of homes in the WUI, and our main fire page for more on this issue.
If you click on the full-size versions of these maps (lower right after you click a thumbnail to enter slideshow), you’ll be able to see the WUI much better. This will also eliminate the blue background found in some of the thumbnails.
